I kväll, klockan 20:30 svensk tid, stod världen stilla. Liam Gallagher släppte då lös sin debutsingel, Wall of Glass, som soloartist, live på brittisk radio. Förväntningarna hade varit skyhöga. Vad skulle vi få?
Vi fick ingen vårig, folkrockig och akustisk kärleksvisa likt Songbird, ingen lennonsk och mörk psykedelia likt Born on a Different Cloud. Inte heller någon rå, explosiv rock’n’roll-rökare likt Man of Misery eller Ain’t Got Nothin’. Vad vi fick var en välproducerad pop-rock-dänga med bluesinfluenser, ett sjujäkla driv och en jättebra och konfrontativ text, och en fantastisk sångmelodi i verserna. Liam, som ofta fått kritik för sin röst de senaste åren, sjunger dessutom bättre än på mycket länge. Röstläget är balanserat, id:t är självlysande och han låter väldigt avslappnad.
Han är sin generations klarast lysande rockstjärna. Han är en av de allra största i min bok. Och han är tillbaka. Äntligen.

Tonight at 7:30 BST, the world stood still, as Liam Gallagher let his debut solo single loose on the world, live on BBC Radio 1. The expectations had been sky high. What would we be getting?
We didn’t get a spring-y, folky, acoustic love song like Songbird. Nor did we get a lennonesque dark psychedelic number like Born on a Different Cloud. Nor a raw, explosive rocker like Man of Misery or Ain’t Got Nothin’. What we did get was a nicely produced pop-rocker with bluesy influences, a hell of a stomp and drive, great confrontative lyrics and an amazing vocal melody during the verses. Liam, whose voice often has been criticized over the last few years, is also singing better than he has in a long time. His voice is balanced, instantly recognizable and he sounds very relaxed.
He is his generation’s brightest shining rock star. He is one of the greatest in my book. And he is back. Finally.
